Liverpool have agreed to let go of forward Rhian Brewster to Sheffield United for the fee of £23.5m.

Rhian Brewster’s exclusion from both Carabao Cup matchday squads was a clear indication he was on his way out of Anfield. Liverpool were also transparent enough to know that there were others who would be considered for selection ahead of him.

The Blades have acquired the services of a top talent in a deal that has seen the Reds insert a buy-back clause, as well as a 15% sell-on clause. These special features in the deal only last for the next three years.

A sad day for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool Football Club indeed but will always be the case if you have a striker with world-class potential waiting in the midst for a shot behind the likes of already world-beaters such as the Reds front three.

Let’s face it, they also barely get injured and are most of the time available for selection, punching above their weight. Adding to this, signing Diogo Jota from Wolves limits his chances even more for game time.

The champions were first hesitant to see him leave on a permanent deal and were ready to loan him out again. But then things this summer shifted quickly as Jurgen Klopp looked to improve his Premier League winning squad by outsourcing players from abroad.

James Pearce, Liverpool’s inside man, pretty much summed it up in one tweet:

"Shame to see Rhian Brewster leave but £23.5m is a lot of £ for a young player who hasn’t played in the PL. He wasn’t going to get game-time ahead of Firmino or Minamino this season."

No space in the team means a move away from Anfield is the best option for a young aspiring striker. A sale with a buy-back clause is a just a glorified loan move that is permanent and allows you to play against your “parent club”.

Brewster’s development will take a hit if he was to sit on the bench trying to prove himself to Klopp. He needs to see if he can help Sheffield out on the top end of the pitch.

The Blades have lost all three of their opening Premier League fixtures and are yet to open their account in front of goal, having scored none for the season so far. They have also been eliminated from the EFL Cup, where they went to penalty shootouts.

They have literally only scored one goal for the season so far across all competitions. That’s four games played.

The Englishman will undergo a medical today, Friday, and should be announced soon. It is unsure if he will make the matchday squad for Sunday when they take a trip to the Emirates and challenge Arsenal for their first points of the campaign.

Will Rhian Brewster hit the ground running at Bramall Lane?
