Atletico Madrid is looking to wrap up the deal for Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.

The Spanish side is to have agreed to personal terms with Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira but in order to acquire his services, they need to offload players. The man being sacrificed for the Uruguayan is Hector Herrera.

Adding to this, Atletico Madrid is also said to be all set to replace their defensive midfielder Thomas Partey, who has been linked with a move to the Gunners all summer. The London club, like Atletico, has to sell a few players and raise funds before they sign the Ghana international from Rojiblancos.

Arsenal have marked Partey as a priority signing who has a £45million release clause with Atletico. With Madrid making the price known, Arsenal are making room for the defensive midfielder.

They have already sold Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa for a reported fee of £20 million. The Gunners have been wanting to offload out of favor Matteo Guendozi in any sort of deal, swap or sale but to no avail. Recently, Partey turned down a new contract offered by his club, which could potentially alter the release clause.

More from Transfers and Rumors

Lucas Torreira was limited to only seven league starts under Mikel Arteta and hasn’t featured much for Arsenal because of injuries too. The move could be perfect for him to restart his career.

The player who is keen to move to the Spanish capital said:

"I have a contract with the club and I have to respect it, obviously if I have to leave it will be for the best.We have to be calm and wait."

The pandemic hasn’t been kind to multiple clubs. Atletico Madrid is one of the hard-hit clubs across Europe and are trying to balance the books.

The La Liga side has already agreed to a loan deal that sees Morata move over to Turin and joins Juventus. Former Chelsea striker, Diego Costa is being chased by clubs from China, Qatar, and the United States.

Though Arsenal’s interest in Partey is serious, Atletico Madrid might not sell the player for a fee below the release clause. It remains interesting to see how the transfer saga develops.

Houssem Aouar is also a top transfer target for the Gunners but the sale of Shkodran Mustafi which was supposed to help fund his arrival also looks dead now after Lazio opted for Southampton’s Wesley Hoedt rather.
