Tottenham Hotspur completes the double steal with the return of Gareth Bale and the arrival of Sergio Reguilon.

The North London club completes summer transfers three and four with the announcement of Gareth Bale on a season-long loan and Sergio Reguilon on a five-year-long deal for a fee said to be £25million, with the potential to rise to £32million.

It took Bale a total of seven years before returning to Spurs while Sergio took about 24 hours to be influenced by Spurs and forget about Man United’s interest. Between Wednesday and Thursday Man United named the Madrid pair as possible summer transfer.

On Thursday that all changed suddenly and in stepped Spurs who used one transaction to enquire about the second transaction. By Friday both players were on route to London to finalise their respective deals to take part in the English Premier League.

It was pretty clear why Daniel Levy beat his competitors to the signing of the young Spanish fullback. They were happy to give in to all the terms of a buy-back clause and pay the full sum Real were requesting.

Reguilon attracted a lot of interest from clubs in the Premier League, as well as the club he won the Europa League with, Sevilla. They were eager to retain the services and qualities of the defender, but his heart was set on a move elsewhere in search of a different challenge.

Considering how in demand the Spaniard was over the summer after a fantastic 2019/2020 campaign, Tottenham have signed a quality player. Los Blancos in return never sold cause he doesn’t meet the requirements of a Galactico. No, on the contrary, it was because Zidane is unable to accommodate three players in one position.

Having two in every position is what the La Liga winning boss prefers. While requiring this balance, he doesn’t want a potential world-class left-back rotting away on the bench, and rather have him develop further at the highest level. Hence the buy-back proposal inserted in the sale. They regard him highly.

Bale’s loan deal said to be worth £20

More from Premier League

With Bale, his salary has been a major setback in any exit from Spain and was the reason he could make the switch to his old club. They were the only team willing to pay his wages.

"The 31-year-old flew to London on Friday after completing a medical in Madrid, with Spurs agreeing to pay about £20m in wages and loan fees."

He is excited to be back and happy to be appreciated once again. His time in Madrid was a torrid one. Not so much on the pitch but because of the fans treated of him, it was distasteful and stressful. It was time to make the move as the player has also just hit the other side of 30.

Gareth Bale’s delight;

"It’s nice to be back. It’s such a special club for me where I made my name, what an amazing club with amazing fans, it’s incredible to be back,” Bale told the club’s website.Hopefully now I can get some match fitness, get underway and really help the team to win trophies. I always thought when I did leave that I would love to come back one day, the opportunity has now arisen and I feel like it is a good fit at a good time."

Bale will claim the number 9 jersey while the young 23-year-old left-back will don the number 3 jersey.This is probably the second-most exciting stage of Gareth’s footballing career. Even as a rival fan you can’t help but be excited for the Wales captain and Spurs, who were both in need of each others company.

Although, with this all being said, the anticipation for the winger to take the pitch will have to continue for a month longer, as he fights to get match fit and able to take on the demands of the English Premier League, a league he once ripped to shreds single-handedly.
