Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could attain his second summer signing in Alex Telles.
Manchester United have reached a preliminary agreement with left-back Alex Telles on a tentative five-year contract. The Red Devils are expected to commence dialogues with FC Porto to discuss transfer fees, expected to be around 20 million euros.
Telles has been regarded as one of the finest fullbacks in European football currently and has been on the radar of many top clubs. Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea expressed genuine interest but the talks never progressed as anticipated. The Brazilian, currently serving the last year of his contract, turned down the proposal to extend his tenure with Porto.
Despite the fullback not being this summer’s priority, Manchester United chiefs are willing to address this area citing the availability of targets at a cheaper price. Previously, Sergio Reguilon was destined to land at Old Trafford only for Tottenham Hotspur to cave into Real Madrid’s demands of including a buy-back option and first refusal clause.

Alex Telles is another defender who has been on the radar of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who plans to add quality competition across all positions of his squad. Telles, who has a €40m release clause in his contract, is expected to cost around €20m given Porto’s fears of losing him on a free next summer.
"Alex Telles has agreed a 5-year contract with Manchester United – Premier League club will now seek to agree a fee with FC Porto. PSG are also there, still thinking about whether or not to make a concrete move. (Mohamed Bouhafsi)"
With personal terms secured, Man United need to find an agreement with FC Porto over transfer fees. The Old Trafford chiefs are trying to spend their transfer budget in a thrift manner to ensure maximum funds being used in luring Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.
As things stand, Donny van de Beek remains the only summer acquisition for Manchester United thus far. Soslkjaer is expecting at least two more acquisitions to build on a third-place finish in the Premier League last season.
