Defensive Picks

Lucas Digne (DEF, 6.0m, West Brom at home)

Speaking of Everton carrying on where they left off, Digne had a fantastic match against Spurs. He put in 7 crosses and looked dangerous all game.

Last season he was one of the most creative defenders in the league and when he doesn’t have to track Doherty he will be even more of an attacking force. Like Rashford, he is an easy switch if you want to drop Doherty after Spurs’ disappointing showing.

Steer Clear

West Brom & Fulham

The 2 new boys didn’t do much to press their case as serious contenders for a regular spot at the top table. Granted Fulham were playing Arsenal and West Brom had Leicester, both top-half teams with dreams of European competition.

But the defending was particularly worrying from both teams, with wild clearances, poor decisions and some naivety from West Brom giving Leicester two penalties. I would maybe give them one more chance if you own them but I will be looking to sell next week if there aren’t better signs.

Patrick Bamford (FWD, 5.6m)

Yes, a 5.5m (now 5.6m) forward scored a goal and everyone must own him! Except that goal was a gift from an uncharacteristically sloppy Van Dijk. Otherwise, Bamford had a quiet game with 2 shots.

I realise he was up against Liverpool, who were one of the best teams in the league, however, it won’t get much easier after this match against Fulham, as they face Sheffield United, Man City and Wolves in weeks 3, 4 and 5.
