Alexis Mac Allister has had his red card successfully overturned after an appeal.

The Liverpool midfielder was sent off on Saturday during the Reds’ 3-1 win over Bournemouth. Just before the hour mark, the summer signing was shown a straight red with his team 2-1 up at the time. The foul on Ryan Christie was seen by many as very harsh, and upon this review, it has been adjudged so.

Alexis Mac Allister Free to play

The punishment did carry a three-game suspension. This has now been wiped off, and the player is free to play Newcastle United this coming Saturday in what appears to be an early test for both teams’ top-four credentials.

"The on-field decision was made after help from VAR, and even that could not save what manager Jurgen Klopp called “a mistake” in post-match interviews. “It’s a mistake and the punishment of playing 40 minutes with 10 men is already punishment enough. There was contact but there is contact in a game all the time. If he gives a yellow card nobody would say ‘By the way look at that’. I asked Macca and he said he touched him, but not really.”"

Good start for the Reds

As well as now being able to play Newcastle, the lifting of the ban means that the Argentinian World Cup winner can also be available for games against Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Liverpool has started the season well with a draw at Chelsea, before beating Bournemouth in their home opener.

"An official statement on the FA X account read: “An independent regulatory commission has removed Alexis Mac Allister’s three-match suspension following a claim of wrongful dismissal.”"

The red card has meant that Mac Allister has had an indifferent start to his Anfield career, but with this incident now behind him he can look to stamp his influence into the side and make good on his huge potential.
