The wait was long but well worth it for those who gets behind the Emirates club. Arsenal announces the long-term service of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The club captain doesn’t follow in many others’ footsteps who came before him and left the club after being handed the armband. He has decided to rather stay put and extend his North London stay for another three years with Arsenal Football Club.

Before penning his future to Arsenal, he had multiple offers from top European sides said to be quite persuasive and lucrative but he is said to have denied them all so that he could fulfil his dream of being named an Arsenal legend one day.

Barcelona is just one club to mention that popped up on numerous occasions, being linked to Aubameyang in back-to-back transfer windows.

More from Arsenal

Thankfully, a change in management in Mikel Arteta and a resurgence in the Gunners’ performances have helped in his decision to stay at the Emirates for another three more seasons.

This is currently the Gabon international’s fourth season in the Premier League and despite falling short when fighting for Champions League football or the EPL title, he has been one of the standout strikers in England.

He has always been in and around the Golden Boot race, sharing the winner’s award with fellow African stars, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the 2018/19 season.

Last season they all lost out to Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy who scored 23 goals but Aubu was not far behind in joint-second place with Danny Ings on 22 goals for the term. In his 86 EPL games he scored 55 goals and collected 12 assists.

Not forgetting also Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is Arsenal’s fastest player to 50 goals. Keeping on to the 31-year-old was vital to their Champions League push this season and whatever other silverware they can get their hands on now and in the near future.

Following his contract extension, the club will work on a deal to tie down his striker partner, Alexandre Lacazette, to a new two-year deal. Massive moves by the Gunners and ones needed to make this team stay together.
