Transfer News: Everton is closing in on Chelsea defender
Premier League teams are working quickly in the transfer market as the new campaign fast approaches. Everton closes in on their latest transfer target, Fikayo Tomori.
A loan deal to take Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea to Everton appears to be on the cards and is about to happen soon. The 22-year-old sees regular game time away from Stamford Bridge as the only option after falling down in the pecking order with the arrival of Thiago Silva.
"Everton are close to finalising a deal to sign Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori on a season-long loan. The 22-year-old was close to joining Rennes but is now in talks over a move to Everton following their failed attempt to bring in Gabriel Magalhaes, who joined Arsenal from Lille in a £27m deal."
The Toffees are in need of a mainstay centre back after not replacing Phil Jagielka when he left for Sheffield United in 2019. Ancelotti needs a CB to come in and challenge both Mason Holgate and Michael Keane for a starting place on the team.
They along with the company of others let in a whopping total of 56 goals last term. This was met with a measly five clean sheets, making it quite easy to see where all the improvements are needed on the pitch.
The other sore point is that Yerry Mina hasn’t really lived up to the hype following an impressive 2018 World Cup and will fall in behind Holgate and Keane, who has always been preferred by Carlo Ancelotti since joining the club.

A weak midfield presence and a lousy defence caused a massive derail last season. One so bad, it almost prompted relegation for the Merseyside outfit.
Having signed two central workhorses who make their presence felt while in the middle of the park, their bad defending days could be a thing of the past. Allan and Abdoulaye Doucouré are those two men who are going to make a big difference for the Goodison Park outfit.
Tomori is a quality young CB and is certainly one that could potentially be world-class one day in the future. He will undoubtedly add quality to this Eveton side. If he joins, it will be the Eve’s fourth signing of the summer.
As the Toffees remain a mid-table team compared to the bigger clubs in the Premier League, this move makes sense for all and is great business for the parties involved, especially Everton and the player, who could play any of the current centre backs for their starting spot.
