Liverpool willing to cash on Gini Wijnaldum for the right price
Barcelona’s interest in Georginio Wijnaldum has left the Anfield club with no option but to sell and move the Dutchman on.
The two powerhouses, Liverpool and Barcelona, are said to be close to arriving at an agreement for the transfer of Gini from Anfield to the Camp Nou. As per reports, the duo are about £5 million apart in their valuation of the midfielder.
Liverpool’s board is said to have given up on a Georginio Wijnaldum stay and want no less than £15m for their midfielder. They know they can’t get closer to the £23 million spent on him due to him being in the final year of his contract.
On the receiving end, Barca is said to be “strapped for cash” and only want to fork out £10 million for Ronald’s target. However, they know that will be a difficult ask with a club like Liverpool.

"Liverpool have told Barcelona it will cost them £15million to land Gini Wijnaldum.Ronald Koeman wants to take the Dutchman to the Nou Camp – and Wijnaldum is looking to move with less than 12 months left on his Anfield contract. But cash-strapped Barca were hoping to land the 29-year-old midfielder for around £10million."
Since the Reds are resigned in losing one of the main figures in the middle of the park, we can expect this transfer to move forward with pace as both clubs would like things settled before the new season kicks off. Barcelona’s concerns lied with Messi and his determination to leave the Camp Nou. Thankfully for the Catalans, they can rest for the time being because he is staying put.
Now they can turn their attention to transfers wanted by the newly installed manager, Ronald Koeman. The Dutchman’s pulling power and relationship with Wijnaldum has proven too strong for Liverpool to try and change his mind for a longer stay at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp has also identified the man he wants to bring and take over Gini”s role with a potential exit looking certain. The funds brought in by the sale of Wijnaldum could help fund the transfer of Thiago Alcântara from Bayern Munich, who is priced at £30m.
"Jurgen Klopp wants to bring in Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara – but Liverpool feel the German club’s £30million asking price is too rich.Squeezing more money out of Barcelona will add to a kitty that has been reduced by the coronavirus pandemic. (Via: mirror.co.uk)"
This has been the story since everything came to light about Thiago and Georginio Wijnaldum’s feelings at present. Gini’s contract standoff ultimately led to Liverpool pulling out of talks over a new deal.
To lose another player on a free transfer after losing Adam Lallana as a free agent already would just be bad business for a club renowned for their recent work in the transfer market.
