The Premier League only got glimpses of Dani Ceballos’ potential and now it appears we might not see him prosper under Mikel Arteta at all.

The Gunners’ board and manager were happy to keep Dan Ceballos at the Emirates. Sadly for them, his parent club Real Madrid seems reluctant to sanction another loan move back to England. Adding to the misery it is said Dani’s heart lies back in Seville with Real Betis, where the game started for him.

At first, the midfielder wanted out of North London and was not ready to take the ride with the then, newly installed Mike Arteta as head coach. Following a forced break and loads of time training with the new man at the helm, circumstances started to look better and a change of heart was on the horizon.

The player himself worked hard on the pitch, playing a big role in the team that ended the campaign on a high note and won the FA Cup. He helped the North London club boast the only trophy available while Liverpool and Manchester City take all the others available to English teams.

More from Arsenal

Chelsea (who they beat in the FA Cup final), Leicester City, Man United, and Spurs all failed to take silverware but all supposedly had better campaigns than the Gunners. This does justify the swap from Unai Emery to Mikel Arteta, in the same breath proving they made a far better managerial change than most Premier League clubs.

No future at Madrid

Real Madrid has made it clear they want a permanent exit for Ceballos. Zinedine Zidane gives the impression he never really had the player in his plans and wants to use the sale of Dani to fund potential incomings.

Arsenal’s business has been shrewd this window. Acquiring players either on the cheap, such as the still be announced, Gabriel Magalhaes, who should sign for as little as £25 million. Or singing players on a free as they did with ex-Chelsea talisman, Willian.

If Arteta can offload more of the deadweight and free of up funds, they could still sanction a permanent purchase. Otherwise, if Dani’s heart is set on returning home, they stand no chance of regaining his services at the Emirates.

The Spaniard spent six years of his playing career at the Benito Villamarín Stadium between Real Betis and Real Betis B. It would cost the Gunners around £22,4m (€25m) to prize him away from La Liga. If they want to keep the spending low, then this is their man.

Should Arsenal work hard on a Dani deal? Or should they turn their attention elsewhere?
