Chelsea announces the signing of Leicester City player Ben Chilwell for a fee of £50 million.

Ben Chilwell joins the London side from Leicester City in a move said to be worth £50 million. The contract signed will keep him at Stamford Bridge for the next five years, earning a reported salary of £190,000-per-week

Chelsea publishing a new player has become the tune of the summer. Their third major coup after serving a transfer ban and as per other transfer links, their summer spending is far from done. What a way to bounce back strong Roman Abramovich!

More from Chelsea

"Chelsea have signed England left-back Ben Chilwell from Leicester for a fee in the region of £50m on a five-year deal. Chilwell joins new Stamford Bridge arrivals Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, who have already signed from Ajax and RB Leipzig, respectively. (Via: Sky Sports)"

The left-back area has long been under scrutiny by the manager Frank Lampard. Prior to the signing of Chilwell, the Blues boss was admitted about brining in somebody to take over from the struggling Marcos Alonso rather than play backup to him.

This leaves out-of-favour Emerson Palmieri a position lower in the pecking order, with the exit doors calling for both of Chelsea left backs mentioned. The Englishman had a marvellous campaign last season under Brendan Rodgers, inevitably attracting interest from the Foxes’ English league rivals.

The Stamford Bridge side has acquired one of the best-attacking fullbacks in the Premier League. His reasons for parting ways with the King Power side was because of them failing to secure Champions League qualification and that South West London is the most suitable place for the next chapter in his career.

Man City was the other of England’s powerhouses to be in for Ben but it appears the project with Lampard looks more appetising and compelling than that of Pep Guardiola. Chelsea have now spent an estimated £130 million on incomings.

With Kai Havertz arrival almost unavoidable and a goalkeeper signing to be made, we could see the Blues transfer bill rise to over £300 million easily. Havertz is rumoured to be named the world’s most expensive German signing in the history of football.

Who will be next through the doors at Stamford Bridge?
