Everton loses long-term target to Chelsea after player agrees two-year deal
To say Chelsea has acted swiftly to patch up their holes in the squad could be a major understatement.
Chelsea has today agreed on a deal to bring in free agent and long-term Everton target, Thiago Silva, to Stamford Bridge. As per the reliable Fabrizio Romano, the club and the player have agreed on a deal to keep him in London for the next two years, earning a large £104k-per-week salary.
Thiago himself, after the miserable ending to PSG’s Champions League campaign, announced and confirmed his departure from the French club, bringing to an end an eight-year reign, where he was made club captain.
It was first predicted that the centre back would only be making a final decision on the next chapter in his career in a few days after their loss to Bayern Munich. However, the deal on the table must have been too sweet for Thiago to hold back on and deny the English outfit an early signature.

At 35-years-old (turning 36 on September 22) it would be sensible and normal for a player of Silva’s calibre and age to end his career in the one he started, the Italian Serie A. But the Brazilian appears to want a bigger challenge also, he is still after top honours at the highest level.
Everton was the first English club to be named as a possible home, for a potential reunion with his old boss, Carlo Ancelotti. Sadly, not having anything more than domestic football up for offer was just not enough to convince him that Goodison Park is the place to finish his stellar career.
Ancelotti needed and wanted the defender as much as what Frank Lampard needed him. Both the Blues of London and the Blues of Merseyside shared a similar campaign last season, with both failing to impress and swapping managers some during the season.
The Toffees are lagging behind in the market, although, the Italian manager is not one to make a number of useless signings. He is known for doing his business carefully, identifying his targets early, and making sure the club needs the player more than just wanting to make a singing.
The club who were first to announce fresh faces in the summer market is the one still the busiest. They have confirmed three new signings afore the Thiago news with a couple to follow, indefinitely.
The singing of Kai Havertz is as close to fulfilment as Thiago’s move to Stamford Bridge. The Germans, Leverkusen, have finally given in to the Blues, accepting a bid said to be €100m. In two separate payments, the Bundesliga outfit will earn €80m upfront and another €20m in add-ons and performance bonuses from the buyers.
This is the ambition Chelsea needed to show in the market. The club will have all their summer business settled earlier than the rest, allowing Lampard all the time he needs with his new caps. A 4-0 opening day loss will be the last prediction, or not even one, when they meet Brighton at the Falmer Stadium on Monday, September 14.
