Gabriel Magalhaes has been a man in demand this summer due to his affordable transfer price.

Long gone are those days when Arsenal and Manchester United locked horns for major domestic accolades. It seems both clubs are gradually finding their way back to the pinnacle, at least by the looks of it in the transfer market.

In the past few weeks, Manchester United have dominated the transfer headline despite zero summer arrivals to date. The Red Devils have seemingly clashed with Arsenal over a few of their summer plans.

Mikel Arteta, in his first summer as an Arsenal manager, is planning significant changes to his squad to embark on a journey to the top of the Premier League. The defence and midfield are identified as priorities in the transfer market.

Having acquired Willian from Chelsea on a Bosman ruling, the Gunners have pursued Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes. It is understood that the Brazilian has attracted a plethora of European clubs, namely Arsenal, Everton, Manchester United, and Napoli, due to his low transfer value of €30m.

Napoli, who want to add a centre-back this summer, are learnt to be one of the frontrunners in the race to sign Gabriel. However, the 22-year-old representatives have patiently waited to evaluate the offers from each club.

Everton are out of the race to sign the central defender who has received a lucrative offer from Napoli. The latter are also waiting to offload Kalidou Koulibaly, set for a move to Man City, hoping it will push the deal over the finish line.

More from Arsenal

Arsenal have made rapid strides to convince Gabriel to opt for a move to London over others, after a round of concrete talks with the player’s entourage. However, Man United and Paris Saint-Germain have arrived out of the blue with an enticing proposal.

Despite the sensational developments, Arsenal remains ahead of their rivals for the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes on a five-year deal, having offered €26 million upfront, rising to €30 million with guaranteed add-ons.

Also, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to pen a two-year deal with the Gunners worth £250,000 a week, having a few profitable bonuses in addition. Arteta is also keen on Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, who is likely to leave Lyon this summer.
