Ex-Chelsea star and free agent Willian completes a move to Arsenal worth big money.

The two-time Premier League winner has been announced as a Gunner and follows his countryman, David Luiz, to the Emirates Stadium. He’s signed a three-year deal that is worth £220k-per-week, according to reports.

After seven years of service at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea and the winger could not agree on a deal. Both the length of the contract and his salary adjustment was not what they were willing to offer and that’s where the Gunners came in and took him off their hands.

The Blues were not willing to meet the £220k-per-week and were not ready to give the 32-year-old’s demand of staying a first-team regular for another three years, only offering him two.

He joins the Premier League’s top-paid players

This news will probably not sit well with the rest of the club, following the announcement of the “55 members of staff to be made redundant” and all the club has stated regarding funds, or the lack thereof, post-pandemic. There were many talks the Emirates outfit were not going to make any big-money moves. This appears to be heading in the opposite direction.

"Arsenal have pulled out all the stops to get their man, handing Willian a lucrative package worth up to £220,000 per week to persuade him to invest the final years of his career at the elite level in north London."

More from Arsenal

After being named as a new Gun, he became one of the best-paid players in the English top flight. In fact, he makes the top 10 list according to the Daily Mail. As per them after all the bonuses, plus signing on fee and loyalty points, his deal will amount to a whopping total of £35 million, which works out to £10.6m per year.

"When bonuses, a signing-on fee and loyalty payments over the three years are included, it will amount to potentially £220,000 per week, or around £35m over the course of his contract.Willian therefore, despite his ageing years, will find himself as the ninth-best-paid player in the entire Premier League. At his age, he now banks more money than all of Liverpool’s deadly front three, as well as Harry Kane. This is remarkable considering the others mentioned are amongst the best in the league and world.

However, it must be stated, Willian is one of the best wingers to grace the league. He is a dead ball specialist and prolific in front of goal. He was part of the reason Chelsea and Frank Lampard reached their goal of Champions League football next season.

He featured in 36 Premier League games, scoring nine, and assisting seven of Chelsea’s 69 goals for the campaign.
