Liverpool: Trent Alexander-Arnold becomes a Reds elite after EPL award
There was never a doubt that Liverpool’s born and raised Trent Alexander-Arnold would be named as the Premier League’s Young Player of the Year!
The Premier League winners should be racking up the awards after killing the Premier League title-chase with seven games to spare. The best in England’s top-flight history.
It was a massive collective effort with a squad having the same mentality to never give up. Although, in saying this, it took moments of brilliance from individuals like Trent Alexander-Arnold to help clinch their first-ever Premier League title and first English top-flight trophy in 30 years.
The Englishman, who is also a Scouser, played a major part in Liverpool’s success under the stewardship of Jurgen Klopp. Since making his debut in January 2017, Trent has slowly (or quickly) worked himself into one of Liverpool’s most valuable players.

When he or his fullback partner Andrew Robertson are missing from the starting XI, questions are asked and eyebrows are raised. Heck, even the team’s results take a hit. This is because of how Klopp has tweaked his system, asking the world from his fullbacks in defence and attack.
The two have taken on the responsibility with smiles on their faces. Trent, so much so, broke his previous record for assists from a defender in a single season.
On the night of their trophy celebrations when they faced Chelsea and beat them 5-3, Trent not only joined the party with a sublime free-kick but recorded his 13th assist for the season. By one, he topped the 2018-2019 campaign’s tally, putting his name in the Guinness World Record book for a second, consecutive time.
In total, Alexander-Arnold contributed to 17 of the Reds 85 goals for the term. The other four obviously being the goals he has scored. Of his performances in his league run, his best came in their 4-0 win over Leicester and their 5-3 Anfield win against Chelsea, mentioned earlier.
The latter triumph helped Liverpool maintain their unbeaten run at Anfield and take their total wins at the venue for the season to 18 league wins. A feat they share with the Blues and their closest title-rivals, Manchester City.
Trent is destined for amazing things
The homegrown talent sits at the table with some Liverpool legends after roping in the award for being named the Premier League’s Young Player of the Year. Only four other Reds from Anfield have claimed the award prior to Trent.
Since the 1973/1974 season, the players to have taken the award are Ian Rush (82/83), Robbie Fowler (94/95 and 95/96), Michael Owen (97/98), and Steven Gerrard (00/01). Sitting next to the company being cited here, there is certainly more greatness to come from the right-back who is only 21 years of age.
Normally anything gold Liverpool or their players get their hands on, becomes a controversial achievement to others. However, it must be said, not this one. This was and is the best choice for England’s Young Player of the Year for the 2019-2020 Premier League.
