The clubs remain at odds over their valuation of Jadon Sancho.

August 10 “deadline” has proved to be a bittersweet day for the Manchester United faithful as the club secured their 17th European semi-final appearance. Still, there was disappointment surrounding the latest update regarding Jadon Sancho.

Michael Zorc, Borussia Dortmund’s Sporting Director, dropped a bombshell on the club’s coveted superstar. The German official said: “We plan on having Jadon Sancho in our team this season, the decision is final. I think that answers all our questions.”

Potentially, this could be a blow for Man United – who have pursued the English prodigy for over a year. Sancho decided against seeking a new challenge away from Dortmund last summer to continue his progress in the German league.

United, instead, managed to sign Daniel James from Swansea City 12 months ago as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to inject pace and directness on the flanks. The signing, though, did not alter long-term plans as the Reds hierarchy has prioritised Jadon Sancho’s transfer this summer.

Ideally, Borussia Dortmund would have sparked a bidding war for one of Europe’s brightest attacking prospects. But, the financial losses incurred due to the lockdown amid the pandemic has transformed the market.

The United paymasters have baulked at their counterparts’ rigid stance over the €120m (£108m) upfront fees. In addition, the proclaimed August 10 deadline was touted as a farcical by the buying party – especially with the magnitude of finances involved in this deal.

Ed Woodward and Matt Judge have also expressed their shock over Dortmund’s insistence to conduct dialogues via the intermediaries. Amid the discrepancies, Man United made an offer which potentially reached the desired value of Die Schwarzgelben.

More from Manchester United

As per The Independent, it is understood that both clubs remain at odds in their valuation of Jadon Sancho by a margin of £10m. With talks hitting a stalemate, Man United expect the player to agitate for a transfer to reignite the saga which is not expected to end soon.

Recent comments on Sancho’s future by Michael Zorc comes due to a widespread conviction among the club insiders that the English player won’t push for a move away from Dortmund – who have raised the 20-year-old’s salary a year ago.

"It is understood that United remain hopeful of signing the England international despite Zorc’s strongly-worded comments, which Dortmund published on their Twitter feed. The transfer deadline for international deals is on 5 October, but the Bundesliga restarts on September 18, which is why Dortmund wanted a resolution on the matter by yesterday. Manchester United, considering Solskjaer’s desperate plea to bolster the right-wing area, have started scouring alternative options should they fail to reach an agreement for Jadon Sancho. Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele is learnt to rank high in the list of backups.
