The Reds may have finally found an out-and-out left-back to help relieve some of the pressure put on Andrew Robertson.

It’s no surprise that Jurgen Klopp was in search of a left-back following the transfer of Jamal Lewis from Norwich City falling through. But with that failure, Liverpool has now redirected their sights on the 24-year-old Kostas Tsimikas, a defender coming out of Greece who has very similar traits to that of The Reds current fullbacks.

Liverpool was using Milner to fill the void at left-back for the past couple of seasons when Robertson was not available or rested but unfortunately, that is not his natural position, even though he did put in some good performances.

Ultimately the question on most of the fans’ minds, “What if Robertson or Trent gets injured, who will replace them?”. Neco Williams looks to be the perfect player to replicate Trent at right-back but the Anfield side doesn’t have that on the left side.

With the sale of Lovren to Zenit Saint Petersburg, plus having Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne off the wage bill, the Anfield side has freed up some much-needed funds. This has given them some leniency in the market while searching for players.

According to BBC Sport, Olympiacos have accepted an £11.7m offer from the Reds for the marauding left-back which would certainly excite the fans.

"Liverpool are in talks to sign Greece left-back Kostas Tsimikas for 13m euros (£11.7m) from Olympiakos. The Premier League champions have turned their attention to the 24-year-old after having a £10m bid for Norwich’s Jamal Lewis rejected. It is understood they were prepared to go to £12m for Lewis but the Canaries wanted significantly more."

When the deal goes through the Greece international may have his medical at Anfield as early as next week and getting him sooner than later may just help Tsimikas get into the swing of things much quicker.

"It is expected he will complete a medical early next week, after which his arrival will be made official. (Via Goal)"

The Scotland left-back has never had real competition in his position for the past two seasons, so this would be an excellent time to prove even further that he is the best left-back in the EPL, if not in the world at the moment.

What does Tsimikas have to offer the Reds?

The Greek defender is blessed with pace, flair, and huge amounts of stamina. Traits that would fit Klopp’s profile of the player he often desires.

Although not putting in numbers like Robertson who provided 12 assists in the 2019/2020 season, Tsimikas does have the potential to increase his numbers from two assists since he has a better front three to aim for should he join the Reds.

Defensively the Greece international looks sound which would be excellent since the Reds would not want a repeat transfer of Alberto Moreno who was not good defensively but only good at going forward.

At only 24 years of age, he could have a long career at Anfield if he manages to impress the manager and produces positive results. Klopp enjoys giving recruits chances but he also wants players to hit the ground running if possible.

Pre-season would be the perfect time to show what he is made of while maybe even pushing Robertson to new heights. Liverpool are known to do some shrewd business while the gaffer gets the best out of players. At only £11.7m it looks to be another bargain buy.
