The Gunners are struggling to make their financial ends meet but not all is in doubt as they edge closer to a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang deal.

Arsenal have dominated the news outlets, but for wrong reasons, as they propose 55 redundancies in the wake of financial losses incurred due to COVID-19 pandemic. There has been internal friction between the players and the board members since the official statement.

An ongoing employment muddle is another instance which depicts the disjointed nature of Arsenal’s revenue model. The club is struggling to comply with financial demands despite players taking wage-cuts to ensure zero job losses.

The London club, though, has had a lease of life with a decent injection of funds owing to Europa League qualification, allowing them to at least resurrect the sporting affairs – with summer investment needed for Mikel Arteta to continue his rebuild project.

Fortunately, the Gunners are faring reasonably well in the transfer market with a few positive deals on the horizon. As things stand, Chelsea’s winger Willian is extremely close to accepting a move to arch-rivals on a free transfer.

In addition, Philippe Coutinho, one of the previous superstars in the Premier League, has been offered to Arsenal as Barcelona look to pare the liabilities in the current economic climate. Also, understanding suggests the prospective deal involving out-of-favour Mateo Guendouzi.

More from Arsenal

With the Blaugranas focussing on their Champions League campaign, the negotiations have been put on hold. But, coming as a major boost for Arsenal fans, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ready to commit his future at the London club after a positive round of talks since the FA Cup victory.

"Arsenal believe they are on the brink of agreeing a new three-year contract with captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The new contract that Arsenal have offered would run until 2023, covering the final 12 months he has on his existing deal and extending it by a further two years. It is likely to be worth in excess of £250,000 a week and include lucrative bonuses. (The Telegraph)"

The terms of the purported deal align with the demands set by the Gabon international while proposing his extension terms to the club, covered in our previous report.

Despite the positive news, the Arsenal club has garnered intense scrutiny over the wasted finances on Mesut Ozil – who earns £350,000 a week to find himself on the fringe – amid the tight purses leading to 55 redundancies.
