Chelsea might have hit a dead-end in their pursuit of Declan Rice and might have to move their attention elsewhere.

West Ham has come out and laid the law on their most promising star, Declan Rice. The club has issued a public warning to fend off rivals and others in the top six who are trying to snatch the player up in the summer.

The club’s boss, David Moyes, has come forward and stated the midfielder is not for sale at any price, as they want him to take on the job of being club captain in the foreseeable future. This could see Chelsea fumble at their bid for the player, they actually need.

More from Chelsea

"My intention is not to sell Declan at all, my intention is to keep him. I think Declan is the future captain of West Ham going forward.Declan was reassured when he signed a five-year contract, when you do that you decide you are committed to the club. If somebody then turns up and offers you a bundle of cash, that’s the club’s decision."

This is a massive setback for Frank Lampard and his plans to take Chelsea forward next season. The club has been pretty successful during the transfer window afore it opening up, and have acquired every target they have set their sights on this summer.

The Blues have already added Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to their squad list for the 2020-2021 campaign. Following this, they have named Bayer Leverkusen’s playmaker, Kai Havertz, as their priority target ahead of Rice.

This could be costly for the Blues. The part of the field and the positions they have been filling haven’t exactly been the weakest links in the teams. The attacking end of this Chelsea side has a lot to be proud about as they have fired the Blues to a Champions League spot this season.

It’s the other end of the pitch that has failed the team and has left them to worry about their European spot. Too many goals conceded because of a lack of defensive presence in the team. Adding Rice would balance the team out perfectly.

Thankfully for Frank and the Blues’ board, they have plenty of time to act. The transfer window must still open for the summer and Moyes doesn’t exactly back his stern stance up by declaring every player has their price, even the big club “sell their best players”.

Moyes shows no confidence in his stance

"I am confident he will be here because he is under contract, but whatever club you are at, even the biggest clubs sell their best players at the right value. We have no intention of letting him go but if it does come it will need to be ‘Bank of England’ money. We can’t stop other clubs making offers but I’m guessing you [the media] will speculate, but the truth is we have had no offers for anybody. He is a really good player and I see him helping us, I hope that he sees what we are trying to add which will make him excited about being at West Ham. (Via: Sky Sports)"

The Scott and his club’s community have basically stated it will not be cheap for any club to take him away from the London Stadium. Standing in their favour, the club has just recently qualified and guaranteed their stay in the Premier League for next season, meaning they can up the asking price for the player.

Chelsea was obviously hoping the Hammers get relegated. Two reasons why…

  1. They are London rivals
  2. They wanted a cut price for one of England’s most promising midfield talents

The Stamford Bridge side paid a combined total of £90,4 million for their new arrivals. Declan will cost close to what they paid for Timo Werner (£53m), if not more. They will be hoping the Hammers’ boss was just blowing smoke. and is

It appears David could be trying to push through a lucrative deal for the club because we all know English players cost more than what they are supposed to.

Do you think Declan Rice will leave West Ham in the summer and for how much?
