Chelsea: Kai Havertz’s move to the London club moves even closer
Despite shortcomings this season, Chelsea have managed themselves into a cup final after beating Manchester United.
Losing Eden Hazard to Real Madrid, zero investments made last summer due to a transfer embargo, still, Frank Lampard is well poised to lift a trophy and finish inside within the Champions League qualification spots in the PL. Whatever you might say about the Blues, it’s a pretty decent feat they’ve managed this season.
After serving their exile period away from the market, the board members, injected with cash from upscale sales of Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard, are determined to make amends this summer. Their project has had a rollicking start, given the arrival of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner – a major coup considering Liverpool almost pulled off the deal for German forward.
To shrink the gap to the Premier League summit, it’s imperative that Lampard is given a few more fresh players to rejuvenate the squad. As things stand, Kai Havertz is considered to be one of those players who’s identified as an able figure to elevate the Blues’ attack.
Considering players, Mason Mount and Hakim Ziyech, who already have a similar role to that of Havertz’s, there is a tinge of reluctance in gaining a widespread approval for the German’s signing. But knowing the German youngster’s immense talent, it only makes sense to sign such a player when the opportunity arises.
Now, the reports suggest that Chelsea has moved a step further towards attaining the services of the Bundesliga prodigy. Currently, it’s understood that the personal terms offered by the London club’s representatives have been accepted by the 21-year-old’s entourage.

"Following his team’s loss to Bayern Munich in the DFB Cup final on July 4, Havertz decided that he would be seeking a departure from the BayArena in the upcoming window. That is said to have accelerated a process which might have played out over the coming months and the attacking midfielder seemingly now wants his future to be settled swiftly. Previously, Kai Havertz was a coveted target for a catalogue of European heavyweights, but the financial losses in the pandemic have forced clubs to cool their pursuit of one of the brightest footballing prospects.
Havertz, personally, desired a move to Real Madrid but considering the current economic climate and a bloated senior squad, Los Blancos are only able to offer a swap deal to Bayer Leverkusen. Among other financially capable institutions, Man City and Paris Saint-Germain do not have the German forward on their list.
Manchester United, alongside Chelsea, were mentioned when Kai Havertz story did the rounds in English and German media. Yet, the Red Devils’ reserved funds for Jadon Sancho has not allowed them to push for this deal further.
Knowing Havertz’s desire to sort his future out this summer, only Chelsea could manage to match Leverkusen’s demands on financial terms. As per David Ornstein, a deal worth 80 million euros is said to be agreed between the clubs to allow the 21-year-old to complete a move to England.
Another outlet, Sky Sports believe the deal is in the region of €70 million. Amid upscale spending this summer, to comply with Financial Fair Play, there could be a decent chunk of first-team individuals being shown the door this summer at the Stamford Bridge.
