Premier League: Is Chelsea working on the wrong areas in the transfer window
Taking nothing away from Chelsea, the business completed so far has been nothing short of amazing.
They have beaten Liverpool to Timo Werner and beaten the rest of Europe to Hakim Ziyech’s signature. Now they have come out saying the next target and expected incoming is Kai Havertz.
The Stamford Bridge club has just been reported saying they will go ahead with the transfer of the German wonderkid, with a transfer valuation hard to agree on. They and Bayer Leverkusen are about £20m apart from their estimatation of the player.
Now we all know this is a great transfer for any of the top six to pull off. But the real question is… is it a necessary transfer? Is there work needed in more pressing areas? The answer is a stern, YES! They could rather be all over Kalidou Koulibaly, who’s recently come available for £70m, less than the intial £100m put on his name by Napoli.
They should be getting Declan Rice in before even thinking of Havertz. A defensive midfielder and centre-back are vital and crucial to them actually taking a big step forward in their development as a club wanting to fight on all fronts.

Both Liverpool and Man City have proven this factor. You can outscore your opponents on occasion but it’s not going to happen all the time. Jurgen Klopp failed to keep clean sheets when needed in 1-0 ballgames the season prior to their Premier League winning campaign.
Pep Guardiola failed this term because of having an appalling defensive game. Adding more evidence, the Citizens are the best scoring team in the EPL and are fourth-best by only four goals across Europe’s top five leagues. Appending one more piece of testimony to this, Chelsea could have been cruising in third or second place this season but faltered in defensive duties.
Matchday 33 saw them lose 3-2 to West Ham after taking the lead first. How much more must happen for them to see, they’ve supplemented too much on one end before affixing newbies on a more worrying end.
