Premier League: How the fivesome fared in the relegation battle
By Varun Aithal
4. Watford
Watford marked themselves safe after they snatched a point against Leicester in injury time, which helped them to move to 16th position, a point away from the bottom three.
Nigel Pearson’s men looked dangerous throughout the game, but Kasper Schmeichel’s performance helped Leicester City to remain in the game. A string of excellent saves in a one-on-one situation kept the game goalless till the end of 90 minutes. Though Leicester also had their chances in the game, they also failed to convert those into goals.
The goal in the 90th minute from a thunderous strike by Ben Chilwell should have sealed the game, but Watford had other ideas. The goalmouth scramble in the third minute of extra time helped the Hornets gain a point and move away from the relegation zone for the time being.
Watford has a more comfortable run of games compared to their counterparts. Can Nigel Pearson’s side avoid relegation for the fifth consecutive season?
5. Bournemouth

Stupendous strikes from Luka Milivojevic and Jordan Ayew helped Crystal Palace to move ahead of Arsenal in the table standings. In contrast, the defeat didn’t help Bournemouth as they still languish in the bottom three of the Premier League table.
The defeat at the Vitality Stadium has increased concerns for Eddie Howe and the Cherries. Howe is known for his creativity as a top manager and has usually solved all the problems in the past. Although, it seems increasingly difficult for him with multiple issues surrounding him. Moreover, Ryan Fraser’s departure on June 30 will add to his problems. It was clear he missing in their defeat.
The lack of creativity in the midfield hurt Bournemouth’s chances, but the manager is still positive about pulling off a heist. Back-to-back wins for Cherries can better their position as the table is too tight at the bottom. Expect many things to change!
