Arsenal’s faint European dreams even fainter now
For Arsenal, this match was a disaster. Beyond the lopsided score, the Gunners lost two players to injury in the first 24 minutes with Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari subbing out early.
From there, two David Luiz mistakes saw Arsenal go behind 2-0 and they were down to 10 men as well after the Brazilian was sent off for a foul in the box on Riyad Mahrez.

The result leaves Arsenal in ninth. They are not far off the teams ahead, but it will take a strong end to the season to see them reach the European spots.
While they were never expected to beat Manchester City at the Etihad, a win would have gone a long way to giving them a shot at fifth place and put them in the thick of the European chase.
Arsenal has big games against the surrounding teams coming up, playing Sheffield, Wolves, Leicester City, and their North London rivals, Tottenham, as well as a match against Liverpool to get through.
A quick turn around from today’s loss will be crucial for Arsenal to keep any European dreams alive.
