It is being widely reported that Philippe Coutinho has “pleaded” with his old manager Jurgen Klopp to take him back at Anfield.

The current on-loan Bayern Munich player has made the headlines once again. A rumour that cannot disappear is Philippe Coutinho’s possible return to Anfield. The ex-Liverpool man is said to be desperate to head back to the Merseyside outfit and is more than willing to take a pay cut in his wages to make it all come true.

"Philippe Coutinho is willing to take a pay cut in order to secure a return to Liverpool, according to reports. The Brazilian continues to be linked with a speculative return to Anfield, after failing to make an impression since his big-money move to Barcelona in 2018. (Via: Liverpool Echo)"

The long road to an Anfield return

The road, if he returns, has been a long and a disappointing one. Far from confident in the news that the Brazilian will return to the shores of Merseyside, but one must admit the proposed arrangement sounds a lot sweater and up the ally of Michael Edwards and what he likes to consider as a dope deal.

More from Liverpool FC

It’s no secret and would become a piece of brilliant business if Liverpool were to buy the player back for less than what they sold him for and get him to take a good percentage off of his salary. Less than what he was paid before he left, perhaps.

Adding to the magic, they have already bought the Premier League’s best goalkeeper and central defender with the sale of the money. This would be awarded as superhero level business management. What if they got him back for free? Abracadabra!

The Reds bought the playmaker for £8m and utilised his services for five years. Following a good spell at the English club, a move of £105m (which could/should rise to £145m) was engineered by the Brazilian and the Spanish club, Barcelona, back in 2018.

Liverpool went to go and sign Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk with the Philippe funds, paying £142 million for the world-class pair. Now they could get him back for less than this? Transfer business at its best. The only one learning a lesson here is the player himself.

He is missing the best days

What Coutinho helped build he misses out on the most successful era of. What he left to go and achieve somewhere else, Liverpool has been more than equipped to take. He wanted the Champions League gold medal. The Reds took it away from Barcelona, memorably.

Coutinho left Anfield for the Camp Nou but failed to show up. Moved on to Germany and has been half decent while on loan to Bayern Munich, but not good enough for a permanent move. They have their sites set on a move seen as more valuable to them. Somebody like Leroy Sane.

The little magician really can make a nuisance of himself in the transfer window. It will never die out until he secures a move where he appears happy and Liverpool has adequately replaced him with him.
