Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva will part ways with French club PSG in the summer according to reports. Is there life after this for the pair?

The veterans who have created a rich history at the most successful club in France have decided their time in Paris is done. Edinson and Thiago have determined it is an opportunity to move on, having almost won everything with the Parisian club, expect that elusive Champions League gold.

As per Sky, the two have a combined total of 404 Ligue 1 games. During their 404-game spell, the duo racked up 13 French League titles. Cavani brought home the goods six times in his eight-year journey while Thiago brought home the gold seven times.

Sadly, all good things come to an end, and now is the time to call it a quits. Thiago throwing in the towel at Paris Saint-Germain comes as a bit of a shock. Always believed he would end up retiring there. However, Cavani who has scored 138 goals for them has been looking for a way out for consecutive seasons, and this was probably the only way.

More from Premier League

"It was a really difficult decision to take. [Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani] are players who have had a big impact on this club’s history. It’s been such a wonderful journey. We had to make a logical decision, both in financial terms and also considering the next generation of players coming through.Maybe it’s the wrong decision, I don’t know. There’s never a perfect moment. The Champions League is still on the agenda and the plan is to remain in the competition with them until the end of August. (Sky Sports)benn"

Are they too old at 33 and 35?

Edison, 33-years-old. Silva, 35-years-old. You could consider their best days behind them with these heavy numbers on their backs. So after ripping teams apart in France, would they be able to produce the same quality in other parts of Europe?

The answer is yes. The problem is they wouldn’t be able to do it week and week out. The two have been known to have their fair share of injury concerns, missing out on some important moments throughout their careers, respectively.

They’d make pretty good backups, as well as impact players. But there would be no club willing to pay their high wages or meet the demand of it. The Uruguayan is on €355,000 per week and the Brazilian €305,000 per week. The Chinese Super League would be the only place they’d find such fruitfulness.

For players that will see the bench for a large part of their playing career from this point on, that’s way too much money for a single player’s salary. The top six would look past them and invest in options that would serve as long-standing investments. The demand for fitness could be way too much of an ask from these to men.

There is no doubting they will be great impacts, though, we have seen what happens when Premier League clubs sign ageing players, it becomes a bigger risk than reward. Radamel Falcao and Gonzalo Higuain are just a couple of names, but trust me there are more names to add to this list.

Affects Neymar’s transfer

Besides being on Atletico Madrid’s priority list, Cavani was a target for Barcelona for the past two windows. So was Neymar. With him (Cavani) being a free agent in the summer he has a better chance of striking a deal. That’s if, however, he is willing to take a pay cut. Unfortunately, this ultimately affects Neymar.

PSG will force Neymar to stay put beyond the summer. The club loves to play hardball and show that the players have little say in the matter. Draxler, Cavani, and many others have found it hard to leave the joint in Paris.

Next. Jack Grealish to Man United is a perfect move. dark

It will not be any different for Neymar. Money talks, but there will be two star players out the door in the summer. They can’t afford to lose a third and too many of the elite at the club.
