Transfer News: Lille striker not ready to play backup to Harry Kane
Victor Osimhen is making huge demands for a 21-year-old who has recently burst onto the scene with Lille in the French Ligue 1. The player has warned against a move to Spurs because of Kane.
Initial reports had Jose Mourinho making the first moves on the player. The Tottenham boss has enquired about the forward’s availability, wanting to bring him over in the summer window. Much to Jose’s delight, the striker is up for grabs and can be persuaded away from Lille if the right deal surfaced.
However, the catch 22 is he will not be joining the likes of Spurs because of their already existing firepower, whose name will be on the teamsheet first. Every player coming in knows they will play second fiddle to Harry Kane at Spurs. Another player standing in the way of Victor Osimhen is Son Heung-min, who cannot be overlooked like Kane cannot be.

"If Harry Kane is still playing for Tottenham will Victor play? Because he will always be benched for him.Kane is their number one striker and he is the captain of England, all these will always work for him in the club but at Victor’s detriment. He needs a club where he will always play full games week in, week out. Not to be kept on the bench. (Via: goal.com)"
What a request by an unproven player
Imagine coming from France’s top flight and thinking you’d be able to convince a club to part ways with Harry after he has contributed 156 goals in 201 appearances. This season’s figures are 11 scored and two assisted in the 20 games he was fit. Osimhen scored 18 goals and collected six assists in their concluded campaign. The audacity his agent has to say these things.
If Nicolas Pepe is anything to go by then he is still lucky to be linked with a move to England. This is not to say Pepe is not a top talent waiting to be unleashed correctly. No, this is just a reminder of all the hype around the Ivorian, who is yet to hit the expectations after earning the title as Arsenal’s record-breaking transfer @£72 million.
There is nothing that gives the forward the power to believe he is worth the movement of Kane out and him in. I’d pull out altogether, and starting viewing other candidates. His attitude, along with his agent’s suggests this will not be the last of such a request, and a player not willing to fight is not the type of mentality you want at the club.
Yet, there have been talks of a Kane exit, with Real Madrid and Man United rumoured to be in for the Englishman. Kane spoke openly about his future at the club during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, implying he is ready to move on depending on the club’s ambitions and if they match his.
If he does leave, there is not a thing in the world that hints Victor Osimhen will take up Harry Kane’s spot as the first-choice number 9 in Tottenham.
