Frank Lampard has sent Chelsea supporters into overdrive on social media after following long-term target, Dries Mertens, on Instagram.

On Saturday Twitter locked onto Blues manager, Frank Lampard. He did something many would refer to as “dropping hints”. Chelsea fans noticed the Englishman started following one of their rumoured targets, Mertens, on Instagram.

If you didn’t want to draw any attention to your club and its transfer business, this is not the way you do it. If you wanted to send you club’s fans into meltdown mode, this exactly the method to use.

The laws of social media when showing strong signs of affection during transfer speculations go a little like this… Step one; show interest in a player who’s been hot on the scene. Step two; start linking the player to your club in the rumour mill.

Step three, see who of your rivals are interest by throwing down pieces of bait. Step four; get one of your current players to like/share a post of the player, or follow the player’s social media page on any platform. Jobe complete! Crazy fans assess.

From Instagram to Twitter, nobody can hide from the social media police and the social media brigade. If you drop the slighted like, angry face, or follow, you destined to draw a crowd and start an open discussion on the post.

The Next phase at Stamford Bridge

More from Chelsea

For a Premier League beginner’s course, Frank Lampard has done well in his maiden campaign. Amid all the COVID-19 madness and afore the delay of football, Chelsea was showing signs of weakness and fatigue.

They were finding it hard to fend off others fighting for Champions League football while running the final stretch. This justifies the London side needs quality in depth. Adding to this, the depth required needs to install experience.

If they fail at finishing in the top four, transfer business might take an ugly turn and they end up getting none of the targets they set out for. This would hinder the next phase at the Bridge.

Mertens is the type of player that will aid in Lampard getting to the next stage. Chelsea could use his quality and long-term knowledge of the game.

Dries Mertens wants Chelsea move

As per reports, the Napoli man prefers a move to Stamford Bridge over any other possible destination. This is not the first transfer window the player and Premier League side have been linked.

In the comments, there were divided opinions on the possibility of a Mertens’ transfer. The player’s age doesn’t bode well with Lampard’s new age policy, where youth is key. However, the player’s talent must never be doubted.
