The incident took place in their FA Cup replay on Wednesday evening at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The replay was filled with end-to-end action and none-stop, tense events. In the 37th minute of the first half is when it all went downhill for the midfielder.

Spurs’ Ryan Sessegnon caught his countryman high on the knee. After the high tackle, you could see a piece of his bone protruding through his skin. It was a massive scare for all-around on the pitch.

Good timing will hand him a speedy recovery

More from Premier League

With all the TLC he will receive he will recover quite quickly. But most of all what counts strongly in their favour is the timely winter break, giving him an extra week to recuperate. This is a stroke of luck they needed in what is going be a testing time.

Prowse has established himself as the player first on Ralph’s list. He hasn’t missed a minute for his manager and is utilised in various positions when called upon. Like Wednesday he was deployed as a right-back for Southampton, where has played in successive games now.

He contributes to most of the South Coast team’s gameplay, set-pieces and open play. He has already contributed with four goals and two assists in 25 Premier League games. In total, he has been involved in all 32 games for Hasenhüttl.

This displays how important he is to the team. It also illustrates that if he had been missing for a lengthy spell on the touchline, Saint would probably be in trouble of Premier League relegation.

He and the rest of the side are undergoing another difficult task in the fight for Premier League survival. Only as few as nine points separate ninth place and 18th place in the standings. Southampton is far from safe but sits in the middle of the two positions, in 13th.
