Tariq Lamptey completes the swap from Chelsea to Brighton on Deadline Day
Tariq Lamptey‘s ambitions send him away from Chelsea and towards Brighton after securing a permanent deal with Brighton on Deadline Day.
Chelsea’s 19-year-old Tariq Lamptey takes leave from Stamford Bridge in a deal that sees him join Graham Potter. Another exciting addition to a team playing a more attractive brand of football compared to your old-school English type style.
This has come as a major shock that a promising fullback like Tariq Lamptey’s feels its best to leave Chelsea and not work with Frank Lampard. The boss at the Bridge offers young players many chances and I was sure it was only a matter of time before he got a good run.
"Albion are delighted to announce the signing of defender Tariq Lamptey from Chelsea on undisclosed terms until June 2023."
If you were looking for a fee, don’t bother. Chelsea always the team to do business with undisclosed fees involved.

Whether he will get more joy in Potter’s side is yet to be seeing. However, the prospect of regular first-team action compared to being third in the pecking order is a tempting persuasion.
Lampard is no Mourinho
Normally in Chelsea’s case when an academy player leaves the club or a player who is not getting regular time on the pitch leaves, they tend to come back and haunt them. Two prime examples are midfielder Kevin de Bruyne and forward, Mohamed Salah.
They left for similar reasons as Tariq has, the only difference wast they left under the watch of Jose Mourinho. A man who is known for going with a very specific type of player. These two mentioned were not in that mould.
Now with Tariq Lamptey leaving, it can’t be judged the same. This considering what was previously said. Lampard uses his squad and gives the young boys a chance. This proves it was purely the player’s decision to find a home and not the club forcing him out.
Potter happy with his new fullback Lamptey
"We are really pleased to have secured the signing of a really exciting young talent in Tariq.I am now looking forward to working with Tariq on the training pitch to help him develop further, and I’m sure our supporters are looking forward to seeing him in an Albion shirt. With his pace and technical ability, Tariq provides us with another option on the right side of the pitch both at right-back, where we already have good competition, and also further up the pitch. One team’s loss is another team’s gain
Graham Potter does possess the quality to man manage players and get them going in the league. Hopefully, his powers are able to help keep improving Tariq and he becomes a household name.
