There is no denying Joe has had many injury layoffs in his Liverpool career.

Long-term injuries and Joe Gomez almost go together hand-in-hand. But what’s been amazing about the young 22-year-old defender, he returns and plays as if he’s not missed a beat.

Gomez lost his place to both Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren during different spells in his most recent injury. Yet, after regaining it with the duo also out injured, he has barely put a foot wrong.

More from Liverpool FC

With different parts missing of the defensive unit consisting of Alisson, Trent, Gomez (whoever is Virgil’s partner), van Dijk, Robertson, and Fabinho, during different terms of the campaign, it was hard to get a run of clean sheets going.

That all changed once Gomez was back alongside his Dutch pairing. Since his return to action, Liverpool has taken the summit as the best defensive team over 24 matches. Eight clean sheets from their last 10 games played is nothing short of astonishing.

They have now also only let in 15 goals, running with a total of 10 clean sheets so far. This stands as testimony to the many great things Klopp is doing with Liverpool as they edge even closer to the first Premier League title ever and their first league title in 30 years.

Adding to this, Gomez for Liverpool has been so phenomenal he has only conceded eight goals in 35 appearances. Now that’s impressive!
