Hammers make it two incomings for the winter window after announcing the arrival of Tomas Soucek from Slavia Prague to the London Stadium.
Tomas Soucek joins Darren Randolph as the second signing during the January transfer window under David Moyes. The midfielder will join from his Prague side on loan in a deal said to be £3.3 million (€4 million), potentially rising to £13.5m (€16m).
The manager already confirmed in yesterday’s pre-Liverpool press conference Soucek was busy with his medical and how he feels about the newcomer. It was a dead giveaway, keeping the Irons happy and boosted for a tough home clash.

David Moyes was wishing a settlement could have occurred earlier in the window. Would have been the perfect introduction for the Czech Republic international if he was available for the mammoth clash coming up against the best team in the country, Liverpool.
"West Ham United is pleased to confirm the arrival of Czech Republic international Tomáš Souček from Slavia Prague. The 24-year-old signs on an initial loan deal until the end of the 2019/20 season, with an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer. His rise to prominence accelerated in the 2018/19 campaign, when a remarkable 18 goals from midfield helped fire Slavia to the Czech double and saw him named the Czech First League Player of the Year.Souček’s form has continued in much the same vein this term, with his 12 goals – including two in the UEFA Champions League against Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund – coming in 26 appearances. Several days ago ex-England international and pundit Joe Cole, sat at a table discussing West Ham’s vast and unnecessary signing over the past few transfer windows.
The talks were regarding how different each signing has been and how far off some of them have been from what we would label as a fitting Hammer man. They’ve quite frankly been having an identity crisis.
The club occupying London Stadium has scrambled for results season after season, and new manager after new manager. So much so, they’ve opted to revert back to an old and familiar face in David Moyes.
The manager spoke of this exact thing and how the midfielder is needed in the team and fits the club’s identity. Coincidence? I think not. Moyes feels the same way and could be the man to bring that identity back after identifying the same problem as the pundits identified (LOL – what a tongue twister).
Experience, goals, but young
This is what the manager wants from the players he is bringing into the club. He wants goals from all around the pitch, so there is no shortage of goalscoring outlets. Already in their Liverpool encounter, there were seven injury scares. Depth is important and has been missing.
He spoke of his international caps, the fact he is a leader for and is the captain of Slavia Prague. All excellent attributes specified by the West Ham boss. We will have to wait till the weekend to see if he is the perfect fit for the West Londoners of East London.
