Pablo Mari concluded his move to North London club, Arsenal. A position in desperate need of quality has finally been filled. The Arteta architecture advances!

Of all clubs in the Premier League, Arsenal was crying out the loudest for better personnel to be inserted at the back. Of the big six clubs (cannot call them the top six, it’s been a while since Arsenal’s seen the top six) in The Top Flight league, the Gunners are the worst conceding team.

In their last 16 games played, David Luiz and co have kept as few as two clean sheets, having their last Premier League clean sheet coming against Man United. Their most recent one coming against Leeds in the FA Cup, which was a weekend after the United triumph.

Funny enough, it has been so bad at the back the North Londoners have only kept it clean at the back on four occasions this term. They have conceded 34 goals in 24 games this season. The need for depth plus quality in the central defender position is crucial to their campaign.

The Mari loan deal with an option to buy

More from Arsenal

The defender has recently been announced by the club after arriving earlier today in London to complete the final stages of his move to the Emirates. The deal between Flamengo and Arsenal is a loan until the end of the current campaign with an option to buy.

"Pablo Mari is on the way to London to be announced as an Arsenal player. Should Arsenal take up the option to buy him in summer, the total value of the transfer (including loan fee) will be £7.4million. (via Twitter-@TransferChecker)"

Hopefully, he will be joined shortly by Arteta’s other defensive target, Mykola Matviyenko. The Ukrainian will most likely have the same structured deal as per paper talks.

Lots to prove in Europe

The Spaniard has quite the trophy cabinet of recent, winning the 2019 Copa Libertadores, 2019 Brasileirão title and been named in the 2019 Brasileirão Team of the Season. He is 26-years-old and athletic – The latter a quality they have limited stock of.

He has already played and proven a worthy opponent against log leaders, Liverpool. The duo met last year in the Club World Cup final. He aided in Liverpool going goalless for 90 minutes of football, narrowly losing in extra time (99th minute). In the 2019 campaign, he helped Flamengo concede as little as 37 goals for the season.

Next. Eriksen is no longer a Spurs player. dark

That’s three more than what Arsenal have let by, with the season far from over. Another important attribute, he plays football. He is able to play the manager’s style of football, playing out from the back, as well as spraying long balls. He is a major threat in the air and can chip in with goals.

What kind of Spanish defender would he be if he wasn’t adding goals to his game? He has all the qualities to bring success back to the Emirates. He also comes in for a cheap cost, representing good business by the London club.
