Frank Lampard knows just how difficult it is to come to St. James Park and head home with points in the bag. Steve Bruce will be hoping he can steal points from an in-form Chelsea.

Frank Lampard’s trip to a stubborn Newcastle is one that could see him pull a good point gap on those fighting for a top-four finish. Both clubs have had loads of transfer talks surrounding them and new incomings, however, nothing has come of the talks.

Chelsea on the road

Chelsea of late has been inconsistent over the past month or so. A good stat counting in their favour though, they have only dropped two points from the last nine they have played for. Their best run was six straight wins which they have been unable to eclipse.

More from Chelsea

Counting against them is their inability to go without conceding. Only a set of clean sheets after their Burnley victory. For the entire season they’ve only kept five. This is worrying, and because of recent reports, I believe they are working on fixing this problem.

Chelsea hasn’t lost to Newcastle in the last three meetings. If Lampard can pull the double over Bruce, it means only Spurs have lost more games against the Stamford Bridge side.

Newcastle can strive for a point

The Toons home form makes it hard to foresee a home victory for them. They have lost both of their last two home games by narrow margins. Hopefully, they can show the same form that saw them take all the points against Man United.

It just hasn’t been smooth for the Magpies. They have faced Wolves, Leicester City, Everton, and Man United just before this one. Only positive standing in Steve’s favour, his side has kept the same amount of clean sheets as the visitors. Making matters worse, the manager has only beaten Chelsea on one occasion in the 22 times he’s come up against them.

There have been 49 Premier League meetings between the pair and of those, Newcastle has only won 12 games. Chelsea has only beaten Spurs more times, which basically displays the laws of stats point in the direction of a Chelsea victory. Yet, this game is unpredictable so thinking the home side won’t fight for points is a crazy notion.
