Sheffield United announces their star man at the helm Chris Wilder has penned a new deal keeping him at the club till 2024.

A few hours before kickoff of Matchday 22 where Sheffield United welcomes West Ham, the home side creates the biggest morale boost of all. Chris Wilder, the man who has more than impressed in his time at the club has been offered a contract extension, keeping him at the club till 2024.

"Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract at the club, with the option for an additional year. Wilder’s four-and-a-half-year deal is richly-merited reward for the remarkable progress of two promotions in three seasons, followed by the swaggering style in which his team have taken to the top flight. The Blades are arguably the most surprising team in the Premier League campaign, and most definitely, the biggest overachievers this term. When Wolves returned to the Premier League the season prior to this, it was hard to see any promoted side emulate or better their first season back in the EPL.

We didn’t have to wait long for that notion to be thrown out the door. The Blades have been basic, but they’ve been exceptional with their basic play. Instead of harbouring a relegation spot in the Premier League standings (as predicted by all afore the season got underway) they stand strong in the top half of the table standings.

More from Premier League

The Blades are sitting comfortably in eighth place in the English table standings. Before their West Ham encounter, 29 points were accumulated by Sheff United. They collected this total by winning seven, sharing the points on eight occasions, and only losing seven times on the run.

This display has kept them afloat from the danger zone and has certainly made them one of the worst team to visit or to entertain. They have kept seven clean sheets already this season. Joint second with Burnley, Liverpool, and Man City. They are only second to Leicester City.

They’ve scored more than what they’ve conceded, showcasing it hasn’t been by luck or chance that they sit in the top half of the table. The biggest rewards and best moments came against Arsenal and Everton, where they stole all the points and the show on a hole.

They kicked both dogs while they were down and out. Which is something some of the bigger clubs couldn’t manage.

The others, a draw to Chelsea away, and a runout that nearly embarrassed Man United at Bramall Lane. The contract extension was in order and long overdue in my view. With the way managers are leaving and joining clubs, it’s not long before he gets headhunted by a bigger club in the league.
