Liverpool, bedazzled, intrigued, and convinced. It has been confirmed the Reds will be a man heavier come the January transfer window.

James Pearce the man from inside Anfield has all but confirmed the transfer of RB Salzburg’s Takumi Minamino. It is said the player is subject to a medical and will become a new member of Liverpool as of January 1. The fee is also said to be in the region of £7.25 million.

The log leaders have set off a lot of alarm bells with the signing they are about to wrap up when the Premier League’s transfer window is officially open for business. It represents the type of business director Michael Edwards and the backroom staff have become notoriously good at.

Money spent by Liverpool

There is no denying RB Salzburg lit the Champions League group stage alight. They were one of the best teams in front of goal but unfortunately were paired with two competitors stronger than their brilliant young team.

They were joint fifth with Man City for the most goals scored during the group stages with 16 goals scored in total. They too topped their group which consisted of Liverpool and Napoli.

The attacking midfielder played a part in five of those goals. Three assists and two goals by Minamino himself, with a goal and an assist coming against Liverpool. This meeting will forever be recalled… “The game that made Liverpool sign Takumi Minamino

As Pearce has confirmed in the same report, the English club used the exact amount of funds as the Ryan Kent to Scotland’s Rangers transfer. So they only paid £7.2m for a player who almost singlehandedly hit Liverpool with a surprise attack that could have seen them evicted from the Champions League showpiece in their defending season?

Amazing business by the Reds once again! Yes, it will be an even bigger bargain buy if he hits the ground running once he puts on the Reds’ colours, but they have a proven UCL player as of the first.

Now and later sorted for Klopp

More from Liverpool FC

Liverpool have applied more quality in the ranks and a player of a nationality they’re not accustomed to. At 24-years-old, he could be at Anfield for a long haul.

Japanese players’ work rate is second to none. So tiring out or fatigue doesn’t run in his blood. They are some of the hardest grafters in the world. Liverpool wanted legs for days? They now have it.

A handful of Liverpool midfielders are also reaching their latter stages, with another handful all hitting the 24-26-year mark. Minamino fits in with the latter, what we could call the up and coming, future Reds, but with an opportunity to impress from day one.

Snubbing the competition

With Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards at their respective helms of this new Liverpool regime, player arrivals have been like sailing with the wind. Players want to be at the club, hence the snub that’s taken place many of times prior to Takumi.

In the same tweet, James Pearce reveals how Manchester United was the other English outfit in for him. Fabinho was the last player to snub the once mighty Red Devils for their oldest rivals, Liverpool.

If this transfer works out anywhere near as good as the Brazilian has for Klopp, we could see the best Japanese signing the Premier League will get to see.
