The team not doing the business on the pitch and behind the scene are Watford FC. But in a time of difficulty, a breath of fresh air comes in the shape of Nigel Pearson.

The team who are sitting at the very bottom of the Premier League standings with only eight points and only one win for the season have just appointed a new manager to take over at the club. It is said Nigel Pearson will take on the new post until the end of the season.

If all’s well and ends well, we could see Pearson stand in as the boss beyond the 2019-2020 season. The mountain to climb out of the bottom slot is one of the highest climbs known to man at the moment.

"The former Leicester City boss will take charge after Saturday’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace. The 56-year-old is Watford’s third manager of the season following Quique Sanchez Flores’ sacking on Sunday after less than 90 days in charge.“Nigel comes with all of the experience and success we believe can have a very positive impact on our season,” chairman Scott Duxbury said. Watford’s problems from the start

More from Premier League

It was way back in September and only four Premier League games in when the Hornets decided to pull the plug on Javi Gracia. Soon after he was dismissed, in stepped a familiar face in Quique Sánches Flores, who was taking over at Vicarage Road for the second time in his managerial career.

This started off ugly to say the least. It was… Quique meet Pep. What happened next, an eight-goal game with only one team scoring goals. Man City gave the new man at the helm a ruthless welcoming and reminder of the FA Cup, a fixture living long in their amygdala of the Watford players.

It didn’t get any better from there on out and the first and only win for the campaign came at the start of November when they overcame a relegation battle against Norwich. It has since been the same, hence the adjustment in management for a second time this season.

We have now lost five managers with Marco Silva being the latest of the handful of victims who have lost their job this season. It’s been a merciless plus unforgiving Premier League.

The next three for Nigel Pearson

The new boss will only be attending the game against Crystal Palace in his new hometown.  A great way to suss out what mess he’s been left with at Vicarage Road.

After that, the Englishman next three matchups are a trip to Liverpool, a visit from Man United, and a trek to Bramall Lane where they will take on Sheffield United.

Next. Potter’s brilliance a world of difference. dark

Let us all bow our heads in prayer for Watford as they embark on this consistently difficult journey. It just doesn’t get any easier for them with their first two fixtures under Pearson against the log leaders Liverpool and a ticking Man United side.
