Liverpool remains five points clear at the top of the table above Man City in the Premier League standings. This, after achieving seven wins from their first seven games.

This is the second time a Liverpool side has reached the feat and only the second time a different club has made it seven wins from seven in the first seven. The last club to reach this amazing start to an EPL campaign is Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.

"The German made his own history again with his Liverpool team, becoming only the third side in EPL history to win the first seven games. Only Jose Mourinho with his 2005/06 Chelsea side and the Liverpool side of 1990/91 has reached the same milestone. (via: The Top Flight)"

Couple with this 7-7 stat and great start to their Premier League title chase is that the Reds have made it 16 straight wins in as many games. This is a strange stat for the Reds but Jurgen Klopp has made them an unstoppable threat almost.

However, at the back of every Liverpool supporter’s mind, as well as the players and manager, they are not getting carried away even though they five points clear at the summit. One loss reduced that five points to two. Another loss would see them lose the lead.

We know the EPL is full of surprises and is the most unforgiving league in Europe. It would ask a lot from Klopp’s side. They would have to play at the same level for each game, week in and week out.

Virgil van Dijk is well aware of this and feels they must stay grounded and take from the lessons learnt last season in one of the most epic Premier League title races between reigning champions, Man City and runners-up, Liverpool.

Virgil van Dijk on “lesson Liverpool learned”

"It’s far too early. We’re almost in October and the busy period will come. There are still so many games left and the only thing we focus on is the game ahead of us. We don’t want to look at the others because there’s no point doing that.Everyone realises that as well because last season, we saw how it turned quickly. We just want to focus on the game ahead of us. We have to win every game, that’s how it is. Everyone knew how tough it would be [at Sheffield United]. It’s a great place to come, passionate fans, a great atmosphere. It was a tough game (via: The Liverpool Echo)."

The big central defender’s fear displays how they recognise anything can change in a matter of moments. One month could seal the fate of a team getting relegated or trying to fight for the title. Saturday past we witnessed how badly every club in the league wants to be the first team to take points from the current leaders.

The Blades nearly succeeded in stealing points, but a host of chances and a ton of ball possession, with some luck, helped them over the line on Saturday pass.

Liverpool’s next three EPL fixtures

Liverpool vs. Leicester City (H)
Man United vs. Liverpool (A)
Liverpool vs. Tottenham (H)

This will be a mighty test to see if Klopp’s squad has what it takes to take the title this season. Two top-six battles, and a battle against a side showing strong signs of having a hand in many of the races happening in the EPL this season.

Leicester is that team, and Liverpool’s first phase in the gauntlet coming up. They have taken points from Spurs already and have just hammered Newcastle 5-0. The same team Liverpool had a bit of trouble with in their meeting.

dark. Next. Could we see the last of Ole Gunnar

Of the two top-six brawls coming, Liverpool has to go to Old Trafford, a venue they have certainly not been that successful at. One point from the last three visits to the Theatre of Dreams. This will be an interesting three games for the Reds.
