Chelsea and Frank Lampard are on track in the Premier League
Chelsea bagged another three points in the Premier League when they beat Brighton 2-0 in Matchday 7’s affairs. After the win are they on track this season?
It is far from a secret that Chelsea was about to endure a tough season under new manager and legend, Frank Lampard. What no one expected was that he would bring forward such an exciting brand of football at Stamford Bridge.
Since taking over at the Bridge, we’ve seen several youth players being brought up. Part of the reason the Englishman was chosen to take over the job from the predecessor, Maurizio Sarri, who has now joined Serie A champions, Juventus.

What needs improvement
Chelsea has the joint third-worst defence in the Premier League with Newcastle, and the worst defence of the top-six clubs. They’ve conceded a whopping 13 goals already. Only Norwich (16 goals conceded) and Watford (20) have conceded more than them.
They have to sort out their defensive problems. In their most recent fixture, they accomplished their first clean sheet. This is a big improvement. But this stat needs to carry over when they take on one of their top-six rivals, and challengers for a Champions League spot.
Against Man United, they got hammered and let in four goals. Following that, their meeting with the Premier League leaders Liverpool, they suffered to a 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge. They must improve their form at home.
Next four Chelsea fixtures look favourable
Southampton vs. Chelsea (A)
Chelsea vs. Newcastle (H)
Burnley vs. Chelsea (A)
Watford vs. Chelsea (A)
All of four of these matches Chelsea must win and should win. They go up against three teams in the bottom half of the table, including the team who sit at the very bottom of the EPL standings. Burnley is the only team dead in the middle of the table.
With this being said, Chelsea could be set well inside the top four if they collect all 12 points from the 12 up for the taking. If they can continue to attack in the relentless manner they have been doing since the start of the season and apply the same quality when defending at the back, they’d make the top four quite easily.
