Mike Ashley has taken Newcastle a step backwards after losing Rafa Benitez and because of this, players such as Sean Longstaff must take leave. Steve Bruce will not better what Rafa has left behind.

It’s a sad reality, but one that cannot be ignored. Newcastle’s takeover was an exciting prospect. Unfortunately, the wind quickly changed direction and the next minute the Magpies were prepping to bid farewell to Rafa.

What followed the Spaniard’s exit was inevitable. An Ayoze Perez transfer to Leicester City and no return for Rondon, the spiral downwards occurred a lot swifter than anticipated. This was then accompanied by rumours that a top, world-class manager was about to join the club with the takeover imminent.

More from Premier League

One name was Jose Mourinho. This turned cold as well and eventually took shape as Steve Bruce. How underwhelming?

Now players need to move on

Breakout boy Sean Longstaff, is a player that needs to consider his options. All of us want to stay at our boyhood club, however, not when times are as tough as it is now with Mike Ashley involved with the club.

Young players have been taken bigger gambles and risks, playing at a higher level than what Newcastle has on offer. It would be a sin to hang around hoping for better days to come to St James Park.

He must look around the Premier League for better options and quite frankly with the transfers Man United are making, Old Trafford could be the ideal destination.

Ole is bringing together a young, athletic team that Longstaff has the right tools to fit into, seamlessly. He would be taking a step backwards in his playing career to not make the move. A replacement worthy of filling the void left by Ander Herrera.

On the other side – Steve Bruce is not equipped

Steve Bruce will not be able to nurture and unlock Sean’s best attributes while developing his weaker skills at the same. Also, the game and Premier League has evolved since the last Bruce was included. He is way out of his depths in the modern game.

Steve believes saying he will build the team around the young midfielder will help him stay at St James. Yet, such words display where the club is at and what ambitions they have set themselves this season.

"He’s the type of player you want to build your team around, I’ve only seen him for a day, but he has had an unbelievable rise. Very much reminds me of a Michael Carrick. I’m not aware that he’s going to United, I’m not aware of that at all. (via: TalkSPORTS)"

Next. Zaha wants out of the Palace. dark

The fight for survival will be the priority of this upcoming campaign. Anything other than that will take a backseat. The question stands… Is Sean Longstaff too loyal to leave Newcastle for Man United?
