Newcastle appears to be working fast behind closed doors in the wake of Rafael Benitez’s departure from the club.

No less than 24 hours ago was it sadly announced that Newcastle and Rafa have parted ways from each other. It comes as no surprise as a contract extension was not forthcoming.

Rafa’s end to his tenure as a Magpie was met with dismay after he mastered another English Top Flight stay in the unforgettable circumstances Mike Ashley left him in.

More from Premier League

With the new wealthy owners in the loop for a take over in Newcastle, agreements were probably hard to come by as reported yesterday by John Wozniak. The club cited their endless efforts were to no avail as no compromise could be reached between the Spaniard and the club.

The show must go on for the Toon Army

The show must go on and a new man at the helm is needed to take the club into the new campaign. A familiar face has put his hand up according to Sky Sports.

Ex-Leicester, Fulham and Chelsea manager, Claudio Ranieri is the man said to have a keen interesting in taking over from Rafa.

If so is this a good move for the club?

His last two spells give a mixed review on whether he’s an upgrade to Rafa or not. The Italian took Fulham from relegation to relegation. Moving nowhere in his short spell at the club.

The mission initially was to save and rescue the Cottage. The mission was a massive failure and aborted with the club returning to the Championship with immediate effect.

Though, in saying this, he inherited a squad unable of regaining confidence. The task was far from an easygoing one for any manager to take on.

Eight days following the Craven Cottage exit he had a similar quest in his homeland and the purpose there was to save Roma. He did it with love!

Yet, this did not hamper his decision to take leave from there as well, confirming three weeks afore the season conclusion he will bid farewell to the Romans.

So a free man and a free team with plenty of time left ahead of the new season kickoff. Could be the best fit for all. Others rumoured to be interested, Jose Mourinho and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
