Although he was an important player to Unai Emery in his maiden Premier League campaign, he also formed part of an inconsistent midfield.
The troubles at the back were not only due to the poor form shown by the backline, but also that of the midfield.
Granit formed part of this midfield and was caught many times ball watching when out of position. That’s a double negative that caused many negative results for the Gunners.
What kept him in the squad was his rare screamer from outside the box, and the occasional midfield masterpiece. Other than that, the Swiss was never capable of keeping up with the pressures of playing in a top-six side.
Therefore, makes all the sense in the world why all Gooners were happy with the latest reports.
Latest Xhaka news
It is being said Xhaka will join Inter Milan once Arsenal receives their asking price of £55 million. If so, Arsenal’s the real winners in this deal.
If Inter pays £55m for the Switzerland international, it’ll be more than the £30–35 million paid by the Gunner when he joined back in 2016. That’s a good investment on a player who did half the job on most occasions.
Take nothing away from Xhaka, he is a great player, but never really brought his A game under Arsene and Unai on a consistent level. Changes are more than needed in the Gunners camp. This is an important fix they can be sorted out early in the summer transfer window.
