A flawless Blues performance and an opportunity attained after other results went in their favour. Chelsea takes all the spoils in a 3-0 victory over Brighton.
Chelsea’s changes in the lineup paid off for Sarri and it’s so cliché to say, but it was about time. Three goals and a clean sheet awards Chelsea a point a goal and was worthy of even higher stakes as they push higher in rankings in the Premier League standings.
Their opponents Brighton rest on their defeat knowing Cardiff City lost their encounter to now leaders, Man City. The five-point gap still exists between the two so a fight to miss that last relegation spot continues to the last minute of the Premier League. The Seagulls were outmatched by a motivated Chelsea side.
A first-half goal by the third highest scoring Frenchman, Olivier Giroud in the 38th minute and then two goals scored in the second half by Eden Hazard and Ruben Loftus-Cheek so identical to each other, it looked as if it was done on the training ground every day by the two. Maurizio Sarri might have shifted some of the fans in his favour after an improved Stamford Bridge display.

Sarri’s positive changes put his team back ahead of Man United (sixth place) and equal on points with Arsenal (fourth place). What a time to take advantage of the other knocks going on around you. The Gunners brag a game in hand though, and their next encounter is against an in-form Everton on Sunday.
The Toffees and a six-goal difference stand in the way of Chelsea and fourth place. Spurs victory in their new stadium put them back in third place by a slender one point. Three points are the small deficit between third place and sixth place in the Premier League standings and a Champions League finish.
Important game talks
Brighton was totally nullified inside Stamford Bridge. They were restricted to three shots at goal, with only one hitting the target. They were nowhere to be found with 31% of the game’s possession.
Callum Hudson-Odoi repaid Sarri’s faith with a stellar debut, adding an assist for the first goal. He along with Loftus-Cheek and Eden Hazard were the standout players on the pitch. The Belgian put in another Man of the Match performance and stole the show. No surprise there.

Not only were his and Ruben’s goal identical, so were their contributions to the game. Both men scored one and assisted one on the night. A rare start for Giroud gave him the shot to maintain his goal-scoring prowess.
The “Sarri Ball” was on full view as Chelsea put in double the amount of everything, especially passes. They racked in 751 passes compared to the Seagulls’ 349. It was the Chelsea who turned up in the early stages of the campaign. Hopefully, for Sarri it continues and saves his job at the London club.
