One of the biggest games for Liverpool approaches and it happens all the way in Germany later this evening when they take on Bayern Munich for a spot in the final eight.

Liverpool and Bayern Munich battle it out in the second week of Champions League action, Round of 16, with the scoreline level at 0-0. Anfield was left with agony when Liverpool who is known for their huge goal-scoring properties came up blank.

The Anfield side has had a tough time on the road during their European run and this has been aided by their front three not applying the same efforts in front of goal as they did last season. After the group stages in the Champions League, Liverpool left the group with a whopping 23 goals, the second highest in the campaign last season.

This term, they only managed a poorly worked nine goals. The contrast between the two seasons is staggering, to say the least. This is coupled with the fact, at this point in the Champions League run last season, Klopp’s Liverpool was already up by five goals after the first leg against FC Porto.

Yes, the difference in Round of 16 competition between then and now are chalk and cheese, but it still doesn’t answer for the three up front not finding the back of the net so often.

Something has to change but will it be Mohamed Salah tonight?

More from Premier League

The main man and focal point for Liverpool have been out of focus. Mohamed Salah has been criticised for being a lesser version of himself in his follow-up campaign. Yes, there is no way that he could have repeated last season’s clinical behaviour, because of setting the bar so high previously.

Yet, more is expected from him. Liverpool has kept a clean sheet five times in their last six, across all competitions, openly displaying the problems are up front. In these six games, Liverpool has scored 12 goals, averaging two goals a game over the six.

Does that sound normal coming from this Reds side? What also comes from these six games, Salah hasn’t scored a goal since the Bournemouth victory, which was six outings ago. That’s five games without a goal for Liverpool’s most prolific goal-scorer.

However, this is where it counts!

Mohamed Salah should look at Cristiano Ronaldo and his one-man showing last night. Ronaldo, like Salah, was quiet for most of the Champions League run, scoring as little as four goals only. Three of them coming in the winning match against Atletico Madrid last night only.

This should give him motivation… It takes one game to get back to your best. I believe the result will count a lot on what Salah shows up. Let’s see if Mohamed Salah is a world-class forward and made for the big stage!
