The two-legged phase has commenced and we already have one team in the final after a one-sided affair. When I say one-sided, I’m putting it as mildly as Nandos’ lemon and herb spice.

The aftermath of the draw already gave everybody with football brains an idea of who has already reached the final of the Carabao Cup, even before the first leg of the semis were played. In the other semi, we saw the famous London derby play out to a well-disputed contest, with Spurs taking everything by the finest of margins.

Two games played, accumulating two winners in the process. One first leg has inevitably made way for an even more exciting second leg. Whereas the other… they will be playing for the fun of things. Burton’s cup dreams are as good as over, with City looking to make it back-to-back titles. No surprise there.

More from Premier League

When talking the first leg the only interesting chat will be about Chelsea trying to turn around their fortune on their return to Stamford Bridge, and Man City’s plan of action in their next leg. Does the latter go all out or play a reserve side? With the other two, the one needs to set up for a one-goal defending match. Oh boy!

Spurs and Chelsea

The contest went back and forth. It also allowed both teams to have plenty of moments to turn the fixture in their favour. Spurs and Chelsea have had a fair amount of battles over the years, but this was one that was low scoring and about who outsmarted who in the thinking department, keeping out key players during the engagement.

A  penalty in the 26th minute of the game was enough for Mauricio to go a step closer to stopping a trophy drought over at Tottenham. The way the tie played out was that Chelsea was the better team with the ball. Whereas Spurs, far better defensively to deny the Blues 17 tries at goal.

This is where the excitement begins… Spurs must now try even harder to keep Sarri’s men goalless. Why it will be an extra bit difficult is because we all travel to Stamford Bridge for this. They will push for a stalemate and seems like the most likely option now that Kane is out for a lengthy stretch. The two meet a week from now on Thursday 24/01/2019.

Man City and no Burton

Nine goals scored with no reply. The one side of the see-saw was flat on the floor, while the other side was way up in the air. A one-sided show doesn’t even begin to explain it. If there’s anything to come from the next leg, it’s a bunch of 18-year-old footballers getting a chance to see out City’s waltz into the final of their defending EFL.

Jesus looks back to his best with seven goals in the last three games. In this matchup alone, Gabriel scored four in the nine-goal riot ran by the Citizens. This leaves questions for City’s next lineup. A run of simple games coming in before and after the second leg. It’s thereafter the Man City have some hefty fixtures.

Next. Fulham sign Ryan Babel. dark

Huddersfield this weekend and Burnley the following, leaving Burton in between the two. Easy picking for Pep in all three so no stress for Man City to make it through to the next round. They Meet next week Wednesday at Eton Park 24/01/2019.
