A busy start to the January transfer window. However, it was always expected after the summer window was cut short to act in time for the start of the English Premier League.

The forgotten man from Selhurst Park takes leave from Crystal Palace after going missing for many fixtures leading up to this departure. Since moving from Southampton over to London in August 2013, Puncheon was a fan favourite for the Eagles.

The well-aged English midfielder made a 153 appearances  for Crystal Palace, scoring 15 times and collecting 17 assists in the process. Sounds like a good return right? No! The last time Jason Puncheon got involved in a goal for the Eagles was two seasons ago.

More from Premier League

However, this was not due to poor form only. This was because of all the injuries sustained and never really becoming fully fit during the last two campaigns. The likes of Wilfried Zaha and Max Meyer along with Andros Townsend, are the frontrunners for the attacking positions. That, plus them trying to find a new man up front has limited Puncheon’s chances to get back into Roy’s side.

Roy’s side has been struggling in front of goal by only bagging 19 goals this season but not to the extent where they called on the Englishman. So it was clear to establish the man’s time at Selhurst Park has run out.

The move to Huddersfield is a good one

The latter stages of your career never goes as plans, does it now. We’ve seen it time and time again, players going from being one of the most important outlets, to being left on the bench to eventually being left out of the squad, altogether.

David Wagner acted at the right time and now Jason has a place to prove he still got it. He joins a team fighting for survival and he knows all too well about how to get out of a sticky situation such as the Terriers relegation fight.

He will provide goals to the team who sit very last on the Premier League table, providing he stays fit for a longer period. Let’s hope this is the case and this relegation battle has livened up with the signing of Jason Puncheon.
