Always the saddest news for this player. A real asset lost to the unpleasant fortune of a longterm injury. What must Unai do in the absence of Danny Welbeck as we reach the next transfer window?

It has been some time since the Englishman endured the injury, but it’s getting closer to that time where moves can be made to push for fourth place in the English Premier League, or giving an extra option coming off the bench for a Europa Cup.

That is exactly what Welbeck brought on his comeback prior to this ankle setback. Coming in when the other two, first-choice strikers were given a break and he did so, seamlessly. Now with him out and other potentially world-class players wanting out of their respective clubs, a move for a new man up front could be the best option.

But who exactly can be the best choice?

More from Arsenal

One player hits my mind for a number of reasons. That player is Anthony Martial. Reaching his finals stages of his contract and rejecting a new deal on more than one occasion are the first two reasons.

The next, his outstanding talent on the ball and with the ball at his feet. Everything about him suits Arsenal’s style of play. Another Martial would fit in anywhere other than United at the moment. The most entertaining reason of them all… Rubbing salt in the United fans wounds.

Already upset that the club is unable to retain a player of his quality and age, United would hate if he was to follow Danny Welbeck to London in search of a brighter future. We’ve seen it previously but players going in both direction, so it would be serving them their own treats.

Next. Club’s best player or frustrating manager. dark

The only thing standing in the way of a potential move, or him considering the Gunners – will he be first team or second team? There’s a healthy squad over at the Emirate, he would have to come in and fight countryman and the other top players. Is that the fight he hungers, or a straight waltz into the starting lineup?
