Two of Man United’s most trusted servants are said to be getting new deals in place. Is this the right move or not?

A team in United’s situation is always trying to tie their best players down to a new deal. Since the season commenced, Jose and his backroom staff have been trying to get all these contract issues out the way.

The first of the lot was Marouane Fellaini, who caused a nightmare at the negotiation table, but eventually gave in as the deal was right. He was followed by others like, David de Gea and Anthony Martial, who both haven’t penned a new deal and said to be likely on their way out of the club.

Since the news broke of the two not wanting to sign new longterm deals, Man United moved on to their next victims and players they thought important to the club. The two players are veteran fullbacks, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia.

The two longtime servants of the club have been on year-by-year contract extensions, and this seems no different. Both are at the negotiation table with the board ready to thrash out a new deal with the club.

But question is… Do they deserve new contracts?

More from Premier League

In Young’s case, he has performed beyond expectation and made the World Cup side, where he was a key figure and heading into the new campaign, it was no different for the Englishman under Jose. But then you have his 33-years-old age tag.

In Valencia’s situation… Also at the age of 33-years-old, has a lot of yards, minutes, and games under his belt. He hasn’t been the brick wall, or attacking fullback we came accustomed to seeing. No he has aged, and has looked worse for wear.

So with both wingers turned defenders age being in the over 30 mark, I really believe it’s time to move on. That, or offer one of the two a new deal. Maybe the better player of the two. You need somebody to transfer the Manchester United way over to the new players, but you do not need more than one.

The ageing backline has been exposed on so many occasions this season, it’s actually a sin to keep them both. 21 goals against, sitting in eight place on the English Premier League table, with a negative goal difference is enough evidence to show these two are not worthy of a new deal.

New, fresh legs and ideas are needed in the United locker room. Giving these old geysers new deals while your young bloods walk out the front door is just absurd. Good moves, but not the right ones being made by the club and Jose.

Other players said to be on the verge of new deals as well, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata. As mentioned by Liam Canning in his tweet… Jose once deemed one and all of these players not fit for United and silverware.
