The first set of games involving Group C on opening day has left this group wide open and has set the tone for a fantastic second day of Champions League football.
Liverpool, as the world witnessed, were the only team of Group C to secure three points. Their first opponents (PSG) gave us a great show and nearly came back to Paris with a well-earned point. However, late substitution Roberto Firmino wasn’t having any of it.
Napoli on the other hand – travelled to the savage land of Red Star Belgrade. Word has it their fans play a major hand in their results. And after Napoli could only manage a goalless draw there, it’s more than confirmed this.
The two fixtures taking place later this evening encountering teams from Group C are as follows;
Napoli vs. Liverpool
PSG vs. Red Star Belgrade

Before talking these two’s campaigns, let’s talk when these two met in the offseason. Afore the season kicking off, Napoli had the pleasure of hosting Liverpool for a preseason friendly. Much to the delight of viewers, there was a five-goal thriller on hand.
However, it was a one-sided affair. Liverpool took the Naples team to the cleaners with them having no reply. But what can we take from the friendly? Not much to be honest. It was a friendly, damn it. For the most, it will have a mental effect on the home side, swinging the fixture in the Reds favour. That’s about it.
The other meeting between the two managers was when Liverpool played Bayern Munich, which was also a friendly, but a couple of seasons back. Klopp was the winner in that one too. Will it be easy for Klopp again this time? Or, is Napoli a different team to the preseason one?

Now, back to their current form.
Napoli have been good under new management in the figure of, Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian has picked up where new Chelsea manager left over. They currently rank second in the Italian Serie A. They met their biggest challenges over the weekend, Juventus. Unfortunately, they came up short and witnessed their first defeat of the season.
Liverpool’s fate was almost that of the same result, when they met the Blues over the weekend. But the Reds have been playing ball till the final minute. Like Napoli, they have been on a 100% record, struggling this weekend past with a point shared at Stamford Bridge for the first time this season.
The Reds only loss came at the hands of an ex-Naples man, Sarri. That was a week ago during their Carabao Cup meeting. The Reds are one of the most dangerous teams in Europe and Napoli will have to play above their usual best. Three points will take them above the Reds, no doubt. A point (as well as the other result) could see them sit in the danger zone.
I feel a draw could be on our hands, but the amount of attacking talent in this game is way to much to write off a goal-filled game.
Final score prediction:
Napoli 2-2 Liverpool
