Two clubs have seen a lot of activity in and out during the transfer window, and one of them is Arsenal FC. Unai has been making headlines since his move to the London club.

The World Cup is reaching the home stretch and because of that, transfers take the front seat. In saying this – the team who’s sat front row since their manager stepped in, is the Gunners.

David Ornstein of the BBC is reporting that Arsenal have two medicals set for Monday on the midfield duo of Lucas Torreira of Sampdoria and Mateo Guendouzi of Lorient. Torreira’s move to Arsenal has been in the works for the past few weeks, but the Guendouzi signing is a surprise.

Who is Mateo Guendouzi?

More from Arsenal

Mateo Guendouzi is a longterm project for Arsenal. He is highly regarded in France for his technical ability on the ball and several teams across Europe were interested in his services.

It is being reported that Arsenal are signing the 19-year-old for £8m. Guendouzi made 20 appearances for Lorient last term in Ligue 2, the second division of French football.

He has been compared to players such as Adrien Rabiot, a former Emery standout at PSG. Guendozi tends to also play at the base of the midfield, but he is a connector between and attack.

Even at 19, Guendozi is a very capable passer and has the ability to create space in front of him in order to move the ball forward. He can also sweep in front of the back four, but his main strengths lie in deep-lying, playmaking ability.

New Era for Arsenal?

Unai Emery and Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mslintat have identified the central defensive midfield role as a clear problem that needs to be fixed. The club has also issued Mohamed Elneny as possible transfer out of the club, making room for this transfer to happen.

More to follow on The Top Flight regarding the midfielder and his chances to remain at the Emirates. Arsenal is entering a new era and these signings reflect the new status quo for the club. Arsenal fans may become very excited for the future of this club.
