Joachim Low’s decision omitting Leroy Sane is a controversial but understandable one. Every player in Germany has their part to play, and unfortunately, Sane’s not valuable enough to the system.

Leroy Sane’s absence from Germany’s final 23-man squad can be the considered the biggest snub of this year’s World Cup.

The 22-year-old winger had a fantastic campaign with Manchester City, scoring 14 goals and providing 17 assists in all competition. In the end, his astonishing numbers and the PFA Young Player of the Year award weren’t convincing enough to coach Joachim Low.

Sane was given shirt No. 24 during the pre-tournament training camp, and that’s probably where he ended up on the chart. That displays the squad depth and number of players occupying the exact position Sane operates in.

The winger is likely to be the first alternate if something goes horribly wrong to Marco Reus and others, though missing out on being chosen for the 23-man squad is a disappointing end to Sane’s breakthrough campaign.
